About Nai Rahain

Nai Rahain is a daily live Urdu show covering a diverse range of national and international current issues, including social and women’s issues across Pakistan. The program highlights some of the most pressing topics facing Pakistani society today, while using a feminist approach that gives attention to intersections among gender, race, ethnicity, class, economic exploitation, age, and other forces of oppression.  We really aim to include as many voices salient to the discussion as possible, and that includes government leaders and representatives, NGO and civil society activists, as well as the ordinary Pakistani watching at home.

Meher is the first to reach places where reporting is both crucial and unfortunately restricted. This includes places such as war declared NWFP, fragile Kashmir, earthquake affected zones in Balochistan, sectarian violence ridden South Punjab, so on and so forth. It is believed by many that everytime Meher hits the road with Nai Rahain, both Meher’s energy and her investigative curiosity add new dimensions to Samaa’s reporting through Nai Rahain.

Additionally the topics covered aim to promote women’s empowerment in all spheres of life through exploring gender disparity in education, health infrastructure, workplaces, and politics.  We also delve into broader human rights and social issues. At 7:05pm April 2, Meher Bokhari through her daily live show Nai Rahain was the first person to release the video of the public Flogging of a young girl by the Taliban, a daring initiative which has won both the host and the show many accolades.

Some examples of topics covered include, Pak-US relationship, Development Policy in South Asia in  the last 30 years, Balochistan-issue, honour killing, empowering women through microfinance, bombing of the education system in FATA and Swat, Indo-Pak relationship, breast cancer, plight of Minorities in stark contrast to Jinnah’s vision of Pakistan, women entrepreneurs, history of Militory Operations in Pakistan, child labour, female parliamentarians, Hudood ordinance and Women’s Protection Bill, redefining disability, Taliban and women, sexual harassment at the work place, post-partum depression, rural women and their reality, bride-price, child sexual abuse, societal constraints for divorcees and widows, to name a few.
